Mental health often gets pushed to the background, especially for women who have faced abuse or live with neurodivergence. Many carry emotional wounds for years without ever getting the support they need. Project Saahas was created to change that.
Launched in 2025 by the Amba Dalmia Foundation Trust, Project Saahas is a focused effort to bring healing to women who are often overlooked. Whether it's a survivor of violence or a young woman living with neurodevelopmental challenges, we step in with care that is structured, respectful, and personal.
We work on two fronts. One supports neurodivergent women through gentle therapy, emotional skills, and basic life training. The other reaches women survivors of abuse, right inside police stations, through confidential support spaces and recovery services.
With the help of our partners—Manovikas Charitable Foundation, Delhi Police, and the Department of Social Welfare—we’re making mental health care accessible, and more importantly, approachable.
This work is about more than therapy. It’s about helping women feel seen, understood, and strong enough to take back control of their lives..
Our commitment to providing deeply compassionate, trauma-informed therapy means we begin by understanding the intricate landscape of each person's experiences. This bespoke approach is especially crucial for women who are neurodivergent, for whom conventional therapeutic models may not resonate. Our sessions are not rigid; they are meticulously adapted, considering sensory sensitivities, communication styles, and individual processing speeds, all within an environment utterly free from pressure or judgment. The primary goal is to foster an undeniable sense of comfort and absolute trust, recognizing that for someone to truly open up and heal, they must first feel entirely safe and accepted. We honor the non-linear, often gradual, nature of healing, patiently walking alongside each individual as they make steady, meaningful progress, nurturing their inherent capacity for resilience at every unique step.
We firmly believe that cultivating robust emotional regulation and developing effective social interaction abilities are not merely helpful, but absolutely indispensable cornerstones for building an independent, dignified, and fulfilling life. To champion this, we design and facilitate structured, highly interactive workshops that go beyond theoretical learning. These sessions immerse women in practical, actionable tools, helping them to discern and understand the nuances of their own emotions, adeptly manage stress, navigate complex social dynamics with confidence, and cultivate a diverse repertoire of lasting life skills. From basic financial literacy and digital safety to conflict resolution and self-advocacy, these skills empower them to thrive independently, make informed decisions, and build healthier relationships in their daily lives.
For many survivors of violence and trauma, the initial, brave step of approaching law enforcement to file a complaint can be an unimaginably intimidating and potentially re-traumatizing experience. We have proactively ensured that no one has to face this daunting process alone. Through a unique and vital collaboration, we have established safe, quiet, and discreet rooms within police stations. These dedicated spaces serve as immediate sanctuaries, offering a crucial respite from the often-overwhelming environment. Our compassionate counselors are present during these critical moments, providing not just comfort and emotional counseling, but also practical guidance, helping survivors understand legal processes, validate their experiences, and find their voice precisely when they are most vulnerable. This immediate support at such a pivotal juncture can significantly mitigate further trauma and empower them to take the necessary steps forward
We understand that the profound impact of emotional pain frequently manifests as tangible physical strain; often, trauma becomes stored within the body, leading to chronic tension, unexplained discomfort, or dysregulated nervous system responses. Our approach to recovery is therefore deeply holistic and integrated. We seamlessly combine essential psychological therapy, which addresses the emotional and cognitive aspects of healing, with specialized physiotherapy. This integrated methodology ensures that both the mental anguish and any associated physical symptoms are addressed comprehensively. By facilitating the release of somatic tension and promoting a deeper reconnection between mind and body, we work towards a more complete, integrated, and sustainable restoration of an individual’s entire well-being.
The dedicated police officers who bravely serve our communities are frequently exposed to profoundly stressful and emotionally demanding situations, often bearing witness to immense suffering and secondary trauma. We recognize the significant emotional and psychological toll this work can exact. Consequently, we run crucial, specialized support sessions specifically designed to help these vital caregivers manage their own emotional fatigue, prevent burnout, and mitigate the effects of moral injury. By equipping them with effective coping mechanisms, fostering avenues for debriefing and peer support, and enhancing their emotional literacy, we ensure they remain resilient, empathetic, and strong. This vital support not only sustains their individual well-being but also directly enhances their capacity to continue providing compassionate and effective assistance to those in dire need.
Breaking the pervasive silence and dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health is a cornerstone of our work. We actively organize and lead impactful awareness sessions within local communities. These conversations create open and safe spaces to discuss the realities of mental health challenges, the profound effects of trauma, and the essential support systems that are available. By fostering these dialogues, we aim to not only educate but also to cultivate greater understanding, empathy, and collective support, building a more informed and compassionate community for everyone. Every single step we take at Project Saahas is deeply rooted in principles of unwavering trust and profound respect for the individual. We are committed to meeting women exactly where they are on their unique healing journey, and we walk alongside them, providing consistent support and guidance as they work towards creating a life that is truly safe, secure, and filled with dignity for themselves.
